The Championship of the National Student League was held within the frames of the program of the RSSU International Cup, Moscow Open for the second time. The competition was held during a nine-day period in both individual and team events and finished February 4.
The team of the Ural State Mining University celebrated the victory in the team event of the competitions. Its team members Vitaliy Bernadskiy and Alfia Nasybullina scored 12 points in total. The second place was won by the team of the Russian State University of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism (Tagir Taalaibekov, Ludmila Leolko). With 11,5 points they fall behind the winners. The students of the Saratov State Academy of Law (Mikhail Bryakin, Anastasia Aseeva) won bronze medals. Players from Saratov also scored 11,5 points but remain behind the silver medalists due to tie-breaks.
Zaur Tekeyev from Stavropol (North-Caucasus Federal University) with 8 of possible 9 points became the winner of the individual event. Roman Kezin (Novosibirsk State University), Igor Vakhlamov (Moscow State University) and Vladimir Fotin (Perm National Research Polytechnic University) scored 7 points and shared places 2-4. Tie-breaks were more favorable to Roman Kezin, who became a silver medalist. The bronze belongs to Igor Vakhlamov.
Representative of the host university Elena Orshonova with 6 points claimed victory in the female part of the tournament. Chess players from the Ural State Mining University Alfia Nasybullina and Svetlana Berdashkevich finished with 5,5 points and won the second and the third places.
We should note that young men and women were awarded with special prizes in different ranking categories.
World Vice-Champion Sergey Karyakin, the RSSU Rector Natalya Pochinok and the Moscow Chess Federation first Vice-President Nikita Kim awarded prizes to the winners and the medalists.
